Father Barry, Mission Priest and Author

Father Barry serves as the Mission Priest of Christ the Good Shepherd. His ministry began in 2000 when he was elected pastor of St Christopher’s Community Church. During his time there, the congregation voted to join the Liberal Catholic Apostolic Church (later the Old Catholic Apostolic Church), and Father Barry was subsequently ordained deacon and priest in apostolic succession, becoming an Independent Catholic priest.

Father Barry is deeply committed to making the Church a place where everyone feels welcome, safe, and able to experience the inclusive love of God. Alongside his pastoral work, he produces videos for social media and serves as webmaster for both our mission website and that of the Progressive Catholic Church.

In 2012, Father Barry left the Old Catholic Apostolic Church and became affiliated with another Catholic jurisdiction, where he was consecrated as a bishop. In 2019, he joined the Progressive Catholic Church after the previous community closed due to declining membership.

In addition to serving as Mission Priest, Father Barry is the Bishop for the Province of Europe of the Progressive Catholic Church. He was elected Presiding Bishop of the Church on 9 January 2021 and served in that role until 30 September 2022, stepping down following the deaths of his beloved father in 2021 and mother in 2022.
